Some stories carry pain. Others carry hope, lessons, dreams or victories. mysafespacecommunity is being built as a place where these stories can be shared, respected and never used to diminish the person who lived them.
A VOICE FROM OUR COMMUNITY
CONTENT NOTE: SEXUAL ASSAULT
I was 15 years old when an older cousin of mine visited our home. On discovering I was the only one home, he sexually harassed me by touching my chest inappropriately, while reeking of alcohol, but I quickly shoved him off and he left without an iota of remorse. That's because I later realized he'd sexually assaulted other females in my family, and no one was bold enough to expose him.
That experience did traumatize me, especially when I encounter him at family gatherings. Looking back, I wished I had a community I could safely share my experience with and gain the needed support.
This is one of the stories that inspired mysafespacecommunity. We share it with permission and care because stories can help people feel less alone. If you have a story of your own, you are welcome to share it with us when you are ready.
